Indian Markets Open Flat as Rupee Hovers Near 87 Against Dollar

Indian equity benchmarks opened marginally lower on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with the Sensex down 40 points at 75,950 and Nifty below 22,950. The rupee threatened to breach the 87 mark, opening at 86.9287 against the US dollar and later trading at 86.9487. GIFT Nifty futures indicated a flat start, trading 31.4 points lower at 22,995 around 7:40 AM. Key stocks to watch include NTPC, planning a $62 billion investment in nuclear power, and Bharti Airtel, with its promoter set to offload a 0.8% stake. The market remains cautious amid continued FII selling and mixed global cues, with support for Nifty seen at 22,700 and resistance at 23,100.
