India's Hidden Gem: The Neelakurinji Blossom That Rivals Japan's Cherry Blossoms in Beauty

In the Western Ghats of India, specifically in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Neelakurinji flower blooms once every 12 years, turning the landscape into a purple-blue wonder. This is a major ecological phenomenon, which has made waves in the international scene. The Neelakurinji, or Strobilanthes kunthiana, is a shrub that occurs in high-altitude shola forests and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Its flowering period is significant for local communities, being a source of sustenance for pollinators and renewal symbol.
