India's Natural Gas Production to Peak in 2025, Signaling Shift to LNG Imports

Wood Mackenzie's latest report reveals India's domestic natural gas production is set to peak in 2025 before entering a steep decline. The analysis projects a 3.6% annual decrease over the following five years, with a sharper 9% annual drop from 2030 to 2040. This trend is driven by mature field depletion and delayed new project developments. As a result, India's reliance on LNG imports is expected to surge, potentially reaching 37 mmtpa by 2030 and 88 mmtpa by 2050. The forecast underscores the urgent need for India to secure long-term LNG contracts and expand its regasification infrastructure to meet growing energy demands.
