KITE Soars with Bots: 29,000 Robotics Kits Land in Kerala Classrooms

Kerala has become India's first state to have made robotics education mandatory for all 4.3 lakh tenth-standard students, starting from June 2, 2025. Under the innovative project, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has distributed 29,000 robotics kits to the state's high schools, offering hands-on experience for all the students. The robotics curriculum, included in the ICT textbook's chapter on "World of Robots," introduces students to circuit-making, sensors, actuators, and computer programming.

 

Initial activities include the development of automatic sanitizer dispensers using Arduino breadboards, IR sensors, and servo motors. The students will also proceed to AI-powered smart home projects, such as face-recognition doors, using Pictoblocks software and webcams. The project draws inspiration from Kerala's previous experience in AI education and aims at enhancing logical thinking, problem-solving, and future-ready skills.

 

The training for teachers is ongoing, and additional kits will be given to unaided schools as needed. The programme is a milestone in getting Kerala's youth ready for the digital future.
