Kolkata's 5,639 Crore Budget: Enhancing Infrastructure and Slum Development

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced a Rs 5,639-crore budget for 2025-26, with a clear thrust on infrastructure development and slum area enhancement. Mayor Firhad Hakim tabled the budget, with ample amounts for water supply, drainage, road grading, and waste management. Rs 249.1 crore has also been set aside for the development of slums, in an effort to improve their living conditions and infrastructure. The overall budget is evidence of KMC's efforts to tackle major urban issues and raise the overall quality of life for city dwellers.
