LIC Advances Talks to Enter Health Insurance Market, No Binding Agreement Yet

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is in advanced discussions to acquire a stake in a health insurance company, with a decision expected by March 31, 2025. Despite being in the final stages, no binding agreement has been entered into yet. CEO Siddhartha Mohanty confirmed that LIC will not seek a majority stake, allowing the company to diversify its offerings without overextending its resources. This strategic move aims to leverage LIC's extensive customer base and distribution network in the competitive health insurance market. Additionally, LIC is exploring ultra-long-term bonds with the RBI, including 50-year and 100-year maturities, to align with its long-term policy obligations.
