PLI Schemes Driving Growth:

The government has increased the PLI budget for electronics, recently approving a ₹22,919 crore PLI scheme for electronic components (FY2025-26 to FY2031-32). This is likely to draw investments of more than ₹59,350 crore, create 91,600 new jobs, and highly enhance local value addition by focussing on key components such as PCBs, camera modules, and battery cells.

Infrastructure and Ecosystem Expansion:

Heavy investments in new manufacturing hubs, like VVDN Technologies' Global Innovation Park in Manesar, and the soon-to-be-constructed semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, are building an integrated ecosystem. The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme fills the gaps within the National Semiconductor Mission, which focuses on financing the entire value chain from design to assembly.

Export and Production Surge

Production of electronics has risen five times to ₹11 lakh crore, with exports growing six times, exceeding ₹3.25 lakh crore. India has become the second-largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world and is likely to touch $300 billion in electronics production by 2026.

Self-Reliance and Global Ambitions

The programs are planned not only for domestic development but for making India a global leader, with an objective of raising its contribution to global electronics production from 3% to 8% by 2031. The emphasis on the localization of core components is declining dependence on imports and making supply chains more robust.

Innovation and Talent

India is becoming a design and innovation hub for electronics, with an increasing pool of skilled professionals and a vibrant startup ecosystem, fuelling the sector's growth further.
