The Maldives has officially banned Israeli passport holders from entering the country, enacting legislation in protest of Israel's current Gaza military action and in a show of "firm solidarity" with the Palestinian people. President Mohamed Muizzu signed into law the Third Amendment to the Maldives Immigration Act after it was passed in parliament, effectively barring the entry on all 1,192 islands immediately. Dual citizens who travel using Israeli passports are also included under the law. The government stated that the move is a reflection of its firm stance against alleged "ongoing acts of genocide" by Israel and reaffirms support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders. The Muslim-majority Maldives had previously rescinded a similar ban in the 1990s but reinstated it amid local and international pressure to act following the fighting in Gaza.
