Mallya’s India Return Uncertain – Passport Revoked, UK Court Orders in Place

Former liquor baron Vijay Mallya, accused of defaulting on loans worth thousands of crores, told the Bombay High Court that he is unable to provide a timeline for his return to India. His counsel, Amit Desai, submitted that Mallya’s passport has been revoked and UK court orders prevent him from leaving England or possessing any international travel document.

The High Court had earlier asked Mallya to clarify his intent to return, especially in connection with petitions filed under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA). Mallya’s legal team argued that he is entitled to challenge provisions of the Act without being physically present in India.
