Mamata Banerjee Woos British Businesses to Invest in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a passionate appeal to British businesses to invest in Bengal, highlighting the state's business-friendly environment and vast opportunities in sectors like automation, engineering, and green technologies. During her visit to London, Banerjee emphasized Bengal's historical and cultural ties with the UK, noting that Kolkata was once the capital of British India. She assured potential investors of clear policies and incentives, including land availability and fuel concessions for airlines willing to establish direct flights between London and Kolkata.

 

Banerjee's visit included an interactive session with over 150 industrialists, where she discussed potential collaborations in IT, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. A notable deal was inked between Manchester City Football Club and Techno India Group to set up a football academy in Kolkata. The chief minister also highlighted Bengal's achievements in reducing poverty and promoting women's empowerment, with 39% of her party's elected members in Parliament being women.
