MEA Signals a Diplomatic Reset: India and Canada Ready to Turn the Page at G7;a

India and Canada are making a serious effort to mend their strained ties, with the two nations ready to "reset" ties ahead of a potential meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the upcoming G7 Summit between June 15-17 in Canada's Kananaskis.

 

New Delhi's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday announced that the two leaders will seize the moment of the summit to exchange views on bilateral and global issues with a view to restoring relations on the principles of mutual respect, shared interests, and understanding of each other's concerns. The step is the first major diplomatic step after relations soured after accusations in 2023 of the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which the two nations have since endeavored to leave behind.

 The summit is seen as a turning point to heal ties after nearly two years of diplomatic standstill, the two sides hoping to look towards the future to be on the right path.
