Mishti Karmakar, a Class 10 student of Jhaljhalia Railway High School in Malda, made history by winning gold in the 20th National Youth Athletics Meet at Patna. Mishti, with a personal-best throw of 45.04 meters, not only finished first but also set a new national record in the girls' javelin throw event. She is the first sports person from Malda to have qualified for an international athletics competition. Mishti is trained under Asit Pal at SAI Camp in Jalpaiguri and dreams of playing for India at the international level. Her victory made her family and district very proud, and she was given a grand reception at Malda Railway Station. Mishti battled financial constraints and attained success with her determination and hard work. Her ultimate goal? To emulate her idol, Neeraj Chopra, and bring Olympic glory to India.
