Modi's April Adventure: Strengthening Ties with Sri Lanka During Visit Next Month

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Sri Lanka on April 5, 2025, after attending the BIMSTECH summit in Thailand. The visit is a landmark one as it will be the first by a foreign head of government since the new government of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took office. The major emphasis will be to complete understandings reached during Dissanayake's recent visit to India in December, such as the beginning of the construction of the Sampur Power Plant in Trincomalee and the setting up of bilateral solar power plants. These are aimed at developing energy cooperation between the two countries in the backdrop of Sri Lanka's recovery from its economic crisis.
