Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate Madhur Dairy’s new fully automated milk processing and packaging plant at Dashela village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district on 17 May 2026. Built at a cost of Rs 128 crore, the Unit 2 expansion doubles Madhur Dairy’s overall capacity to 5 lakh litres per day, making it the largest cooperative milk union in the district and a new boost for local dairy farmers.
Gandhinagar’s cooperative dairy sector is set for a major capacity jump. Madhur Dairy, run by the Gandhinagar District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, has completed a modern, fully automated plant that will be formally commissioned by Amit Shah today. State leaders say the project will help the cooperative process all the milk it procures, improve prices for producers and widen the range of branded dairy products available to consumers.
Madhur Dairy Unit 2 At Dashela
The new plant, located at Dashela village in Gandhinagar district, is a fully automated milk processing and packaging facility billed as Madhur Dairy Unit 2.
It has an initial milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres per day, with built in provisions to ramp up to 5 lakh litres daily depending on future demand.
From 2.5 Lakh To 5 Lakh Litres A Day
Once Unit 2 is commissioned, Madhur Dairy’s total installed milk processing and packaging capacity will reach around 5 lakh litres per day, up from about 2.5 lakh litres, consolidating its position as the largest cooperative milk union in Gandhinagar district.
Local coverage notes that the plant will handle production of core products such as milk, buttermilk, paneer, ghee, curd, ice cream and sweets under the Madhur brand and for the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation’s Amul label.
Who Will Attend The Ceremony
Along with Amit Shah, the inauguration event will feature Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, State Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma and Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani.
Women milk producers linked to village level cooperative societies are scheduled to felicitate Shah with a Madhur Dairy product kit, and the minister will distribute certificates to society representatives to underline the cooperative focus.
Better Realisation, Wider Product Access
Officials say the expanded infrastructure will allow Madhur Dairy to process the entire quantity of milk collected from its member farmers, reducing the need to send surplus elsewhere and improving value realisation for producers.
For consumers in Gandhinagar and adjoining areas, the plant promises greater availability of quality packaged milk and an expanded basket of dairy products from Madhur and Amul, backed by modern quality control and automation.
