Mumbai Airport's Terminal 1 to Undergo Major Redevelopment, Boosting Capacity by 42%

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is set for a significant transformation as Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL), operated by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), announces plans to demolish and redevelop Terminal 1. The phased project is scheduled to commence in November 2025, aiming to increase the terminal's passenger handling capacity by 42%, enabling it to accommodate 20 million travelers annually. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2028-29. During the construction phase, Terminal 2 will manage the additional traffic, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, set to open later this year, will also help absorb the capacity gap. The new Terminal 1 is designed to set new standards for eco-conscious airport design, enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
