Mumbai To Face 30-Hour Water Cut As BMC Connects Critical Supply Tunnels

The BMC has announced a major water supply disruption across Mumbai to facilitate commissioning of new water tunnels. The shutdown is part of a long-term infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving efficiency and reliability of the city’s water distribution system.

Reason For Shutdown

The shutdown involves connecting a 1,800 mm diameter water tunnel from Amar Mahal (near Hedgewar Udyan) to key reservoirs including Wadala’s Pratiksha Nagar, Parel’s AMT-1, Trombay Reservoir (AMT-2), and Turbhe High Level Reservoir. Both the 1,800 mm Turbhe High Level channel and the 1,200 mm Turbhe Low Level channel will remain offline during the maintenance window. 

Areas Affected

F North Division: Pratiksha Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Shanti Nagar, H. M. Marg, K. D. Gaikwad Nagar, Wadala Truck Terminus, New Cuffe Parade, Alameda Complex (shutdown mainly on May 6).

Shiv East & West: Low-pressure supply throughout.

F South, L, M East Divisions: Impacted on May 6.

M West & N Divisions: Full shutdown on May 5, shifting to low pressure on May 6. 

Advisory To Residents

The BMC has urged citizens to store sufficient water before May 5, use it sparingly, and avoid wastage. Hospitals and essential services have been alerted, and water tankers will be deployed if necessary.
