Namo Bharat Trials: A Leap Towards Seamless Connectivity in Delhi

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has started trial runs of the Namo Bharat train on the 4.5-kilometer section between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan stations, a milestone in the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project. The initial trial, which was done manually on Saturday night, checked the compatibility of key subsystems like signalling, tracks, platform screen doors, and overhead electrification.

This trial is also seen to have passed the train Namo Bharat over the Yamuna River for the first time on a newly built bridge of 1.3 kilometers having 32 pillars. The train passed on its way through urban icons such as the Lake of Flames and Barapullah flyover and Ring Road before reaching its destination at Sarai Kale Khan station. The station, being a multi-modal transport terminal, is coming up with escalators, lifts, and platform screen doors already in place.

Once functional, this section will facilitate air-conditioned, high-speed connectivity between Meerut and Sarai Kale Khan, cutting down travel time to less than an hour. As NCRTC sets its sights to open the corridor by June-end, it gets closer to transforming regional transport in the National Capital Region.
