The Delhi government is finalizing preparations to launch an eco-friendly cruise service on the Yamuna River by late November 2025. This initiative aims to rejuvenate the river, promote tourism, and provide recreational activities along the riverbanks between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, featuring hybrid electric boats and cultural experiences.
The Delhi government is gearing up to introduce its ambitious Yamuna Cruise project by the last week of November 2025. This project, developed in collaboration with multiple agencies including the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority, and Delhi Jal Board, aims to revive the Yamuna River’s recreational potential and boost tourism in the national capital.
The cruise service will run between Sonia Vihar at the Wazirabad barrage and Jagatpur near the Shani temple, a 4-5 km stretch with significantly improved water quality, making it suitable for passenger boats. The government plans to operate an electric-solar hybrid boat initially, with a seating capacity of 90 passengers, facilitating eco-friendly travel along the river.
Notable updates:
The service will offer a complete tourism experience, including snacks onboard and panoramic views of the Yamuna Ghats.
Onshore infrastructure such as ticket counters, waiting areas, and passenger amenities are under active construction.
The government plans to incorporate cultural programs, including traditional dance and music, enriching the journey.
Safety features like bio-toilets, life jackets, and public announcement systems will be integral parts of the cruise.
The project aligns with National Waterway-110 designation and broader efforts to develop river tourism and eco-friendly transport.
Expected ticket pricing will be affordable to encourage widespread public participation.
Future plans include launching additional boats based on passenger demand.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Delhi’s urban and tourism development strategy, aiming to create a unique, sustainable leisure activity while restoring the Yamuna’s cultural and ecological value.
