In July 2025, over 13.66 lakh beneficiaries of NSAP used face authentication to securely access their social security benefits.

A Milestone in Digital Identity Verification
The month of July 2025 marked a landmark moment for Aadhaar’s face authentication technology, as it soared past previous records to clock 19.36 crore transactions. This represents a remarkable rise—over threefold compared to the 5.77 crore transactions from July 2024—indicative of rapid adoption and growing trust in biometric facial recognition as a secure, contactless verification method. The 22% month-on-month growth over June 2025 further emphasizes its steady climb in usage.
The record-breaking single-day transaction tally of more than 1.22 crore on July 1 showcases how the technology is now seamlessly catering to large-scale verification demands, aiding millions across the country to authenticate their identity in real-time with just a face scan on both Android and iOS platforms.
Wide Adoption Across Key Sectors and Services
Aadhaar face authentication has been deployed by over 150 government and private sector organizations to deliver services more efficiently and securely. This includes ministries and departments facilitating welfare schemes, oil marketing companies ensuring rightful subsidies, telecom providers authenticating customers, and financial entities simplifying KYC processes.
Critical welfare programs have also embraced this technology—for instance, the National Social Assistance Programme now leverages face authentication to enable eligible beneficiaries to access social security benefits easily and safely. Since July, 13.66 lakh such beneficiaries have authenticated themselves using this method.
In the education and recruitment domains, the National Medical Commission has mandated Aadhaar face authentication for attendance recording in all 850 medical colleges and institutions nationwide. Additionally, major recruitment agencies such as the Staff Selection Commission and Railway Recruitment Board use face authentication to register and verify candidates, streamlining processes and cutting down fraudulent practices.
A Catalyst for Ease of Living and Digital Growth
The expanding footprint of Aadhaar face authentication is emblematic of India’s digital transformation journey, acting as a catalyst for ease of living for millions. By replacing traditional paperwork and physical presence requirements with biometric verification, it reduces wait times, cuts fraud, and enhances the overall user experience—empowering citizens to access government services and private sector offerings effortlessly.
The total Aadhaar authentication transactions in July 2025 crossed 221 crore, marking a 3.8% growth compared to the same period last year. This surge across all Aadhaar verification modes demonstrates how the system underpins not just welfare delivery but also the voluntary uptake of numerous services by citizens.
Alongside face authentication, Aadhaar’s electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) service continues its critical role, registering 39.56 crore transactions in July. This digital verification service is increasingly integral to banking, non-banking financial companies, and telecom sectors, improving customer experience and facilitating ease of doing business.
Challenges and Assurance on Privacy
While Aadhaar face authentication has gained widespread acceptance, some civil rights groups like the Internet Freedom Foundation have expressed concerns regarding potential technical glitches impacting citizens’ access to government schemes. Nevertheless, the official stance emphasizes robust growth as a reflection of growing trust, stringent security protocols, and successful integration across sectors.
Outlook: Towards a Digitally Empowered Future
The record numbers achieved in July 2025 reaffirm Aadhaar’s position as the backbone of India’s digital identity infrastructure. As government and private entities continue to adopt face authentication, millions more are expected to benefit from faster and safer access to essential services.
With continuous technological enhancements and broader outreach, Aadhaar face authentication is set to be a cornerstone in driving India’s vision for inclusive, technology-led governance and socio-economic development.
