Despite all the build-up that has lead to Shanaya Kapoor's arrival in Bollywood, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan has so far made no impression at the box office. Loosely based on Ruskin Bond's short story The Eyes Have It, the movie stars Kapoor with Vikrant Massey in an emotional bonding love story between a blind singer and a theatre performer. But the numbers are otherwise.

Box Office Performance
  • Day 1 accounted for Rs 30–35 lakh, and there was a slight jump to Rs 43 lakh on Day 2
  • Total amount realized within two days: Rs 73 lakh, still to reach the Rs 1 crore mark
  • Hindi shows on Saturday averaged 15.25%, while night shows averaged 23.14%
  • The film is in stiff competition with Superman and Maalik, which fetched Rs 9.25 crore and Rs 5.25 crore on Day 2 respectively
Audience Reception and Challenges
  • Mixed reactions praise genuine performances and emotional songs by Vishal Mishra, yet poor execution and poor dialogues have lost the effect
  • Shanaya Kapoor's launch, though anticipated, hasn't translated into good traffic
  • Massey's recent film The Sabarmati Report debuted at Rs 1.25 crore, lowest box office opening for him
  • The controversial scenes and emotional mood of the movie have generated buzz but not conversion at the box office
Outlook
With Sunday collections yet to be counted, the fate of the film rests on word-of-mouth and young people's interest. Currently, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is a slow starter in a packed movie weekend.
