In a landmark move to modernize and unify digital services, the Ministry of Railways has launched RailOne—a comprehensive mobile application designed to serve as a one-stop platform for all passenger-related needs. Unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1, 2025, during the 40th Foundation Day of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the app aims to streamline access to ticketing, enquiries, food services, and more under a single digital roof.

Here’s a detailed look at the app’s features, strategic intent, and what it means for millions of Indian Railways passengers.

Key Features and Functionalities

- RailOne consolidates services previously spread across multiple apps such as IRCTC Rail Connect, UTS, Rail Madad, and NTES
- Offers booking for reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets through a unified interface
- Enables real-time train tracking, PNR status checks, coach position lookup, and journey planning
- Integrates Rail Madad for grievance redressal and Food on Train for meal ordering
- Includes freight-related enquiry tools, expanding its utility beyond passenger services

User Experience and Accessibility

- Single sign-on feature allows users to log in using existing IRCTC or UTS credentials
- Supports guest login via OTP for basic enquiries, eliminating the need for full registration
- Offers secure login options including numeric mPIN and biometric authentication
- Available in Hindi and English, with plans to expand multilingual support
- R-Wallet integration enables seamless payments for tickets and services within the app

Strategic Vision and Digital Transformation

- Developed by CRIS, the app is part of Indian Railways’ broader push toward digital consolidation and passenger-centric innovation
- Aims to reduce the clutter of multiple apps and simplify the digital journey for over 23 million daily passengers
- Backend infrastructure is being upgraded to handle 150,000 ticket bookings and 4 million enquiries per minute
- Tatkal bookings will require Aadhaar or DigiLocker verification starting July 2025, enhancing security and transparency

What Sets RailOne Apart

- Unlike the IRCTC app, RailOne includes unreserved and platform ticket booking, previously available only through UTS
- Combines ticketing, enquiries, food, and complaints into a single app, reducing device storage needs and login fatigue
- Offers a more intuitive and integrated user interface, designed for both tech-savvy and first-time users

As RailOne rolls out across Android and iOS platforms, it marks a significant leap in how passengers interact with the Indian Railways ecosystem—bringing convenience, clarity, and control to the palm of every traveler.
