The Amarnath Yatra 2025 is off to a powerful start, with over 26,800 devotees completing their pilgrimage to the 3,888-metre-high cave shrine in just two days. On July 5, a fresh batch of 6,979 yatris departed from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, in 312 escorted vehicles, heading toward the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.
This year’s 38-day yatra, which began on July 3 and concludes on August 9 (Shravan Purnima/Raksha Bandhan), is being conducted under unprecedented multi-layered security, following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Over 180 additional CAPF companies have been deployed, and locals welcomed pilgrims with garlands at Qazigund, symbolizing unity and peace.
To enhance pilgrim comfort, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated a new Yatri Niwas at Baltal, part of ONGC’s CSR initiative. Similar facilities at Bijbehara, Nunwan, and Sidhra are nearing completion.
