Amazon India has rolled out a flat ₹5 marketplace fee on all customer orders, following a trend set by Flipkart and quick-commerce platforms. The fee, which applies to both Prime and non-Prime members, is aimed at offsetting operational costs while maintaining a wide product selection.
Key Highlights of Amazon’s Marketplace Fee
Flat ₹5 Fee on All Orders – The charge is inclusive of taxes and will be visible at checkout as a separate line item.
Exemptions Apply – The fee does not apply to gift card purchases, Amazon Business, Bazaar, Amazon Now, and Amazon Fresh orders.
Industry-Wide Trend – Competitors like Flipkart, Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart have introduced similar surcharges to manage rising delivery costs.
Refund Policy – If an order is fully canceled before shipping, the fee will be refunded in full. However, returns after delivery will not qualify for a refund.
Impact on E-Commerce & Consumer Spending
With e-commerce platforms increasingly adopting small fees, Amazon’s move signals a shift toward monetization strategies that help sustain delivery operations while ensuring competitive pricing.
