The Delhi government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre today for launching the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the capital. The decision is a major step towards increasing access to healthcare among economically weaker sections of society in Delhi.

Health Coverage: The scheme offers free health insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh per family per annum for tertiary and secondary care. The Delhi government will also provide an additional top-up of ₹5 lakh, making the total coverage ₹10 lakh per family.

Family Benefits: The scheme has no family size, age, or gender restriction. All family members who are eligible can avail of this coverage.

Cashless Treatment: Beneficiaries are eligible for cashless treatment in empanelled hospitals in India, lessening the financial burden in the event of medical emergencies.

Pre-Existing Diseases: Coverage of pre-existing diseases right from day one ensures instant access to required medical care.

Comprehensive Services: The scheme covers more than 1,500 medical procedures like hospitalization, surgeries, diagnostics, and post-discharge treatment.
This program will bring Delhi to the 35th position or Union Territory to implement the scheme, which will benefit crores of citizens by giving them quality health care services without putting a financial burden on them.
