A multidisciplinary team of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will be visiting Karnataka from April 7-9 to carry out feasibility studies for Bengaluru's planned second international airport. Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil said that three sites have been shortlisted: two along Kanakapura Road and one along the Nelamangala-Kunigal Road. The Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation has already paid ₹1.21 crore to AAI for conducting the study. Detailed documentation such as revenue maps, weather statements, and working information has been made available for the evaluation. The sense of urgency arises out of mounting pressure on the present airport and sunset of the 150 km radius limitation by the year 2033. It is a turning point in attempting to meet the rising air journey needs of Bengaluru and that of the future.
