Himachal Pradesh will throw open its gate to travelers to hitherto closed destinations on the India-China border, starting with the historic Shipki La pass. The project, which was initiated in consultation with the Central government, will generate revenue through tourism while maintaining national security.
Strategic Development of Tourism
Shipki La, a high-altitude mountain pass in Kinnaur district, has been a significant trade link between India and Tibet for centuries.
Previously, access was limited to inhabitants and controlled trade business.
Restrictions have been relaxed by the government, and Indian tourists possessing Aadhaar cards can now visit the pass.
Managed Security Protocols and Access
It will be regulated by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the army for security purposes.
A limit of 30 visitors an hour and 210 for the day has been instituted to control turnover.
Photography of strategic sites is also banned to protect sensitive areas.
Future Prospects and Economic Repercussions
Himachal Pradesh is also opening up further along the border, such as Kaurik and Rangrik in Spiti district.
More tourism will generate higher economic activity and infrastructure development in the surrounding areas.
The project combines adventure travel and cultural exploration, providing visitors with an alternative view of tribal heritage.
