BJP lawmaker Ravi Shankar Prasad termed it a "historic day for Bihar" as the state hosted the Khelo India Youth Games for the first time, in a first-of-its-kind event in its sports history. The 7th national youth sporting fiesta began on May 4 at Patliputra Sports Complex, Patna, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event virtually and lauded the thriving sports culture of Bihar.
More than 10,000 participants, comprising over 6,000 athletes, have gathered in five cities-Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai-to compete in 27 sports, including new entrants such as sepaktakraw and esports. Prasad pointed out that the fact that such a high-profile event is being hosted speaks volumes about Bihar's progress and the Centre's determination to give the state's youth a boost through sports and infrastructure.
