Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is re-writing the history of Begusarai, Bihar, by enabling the people to become entrepreneurs and employment generators. This flagship scheme is not only promoting self-employment but also generating a wave of local economic resurgence in the district.

Key Highlights:
  • Entrepreneurial Success: People such as Amit Kumar of Sihama village have used PMEGP loans to start successful ventures. Using a ₹15 lakh loan, Amit established a Bulk Milk Cooling Unit, now receiving 1,000–1,500 liters of milk every day and making dairy products for the local market. His business, Shwet Shakti, is now a local brand and an inspiration.
  • Creation of Employment: Amit's initiative itself has provided 10–12 rural youths with employment opportunities and created a chain of more than 50 milk suppliers, highlighting the scheme's multiplier effect on rural jobs.
  • Impact on Community: Success of such ventures is inspiring others. Villagers frequently approach seeking guidance on availing PMEGP, and the scheme is responsible for initiating a self-employment movement in Begusarai.
  • Statewide Achievement: Bihar stands third at the national level in PMEGP loan sanctions in 2024–25 with more than 8,000 applications sanctioned and an all-time sanction ratio of 115%. The state also tops in application scrutiny, indicating effective implementation.
  • Inclusive Growth: PMEGP facilitates new projects with subsidies of up to 35% for backward classes, guaranteeing opportunities to women, minorities, and backward communities.
PMEGP’s transformative impact is visible in Begusarai’s bustling enterprises and growing confidence among its youth, making self-reliance a reality for thousands.
