In a big infrastructure push, the government of Bihar has cleared the way for the construction of 223 Railway Overbridges (ROBs) in the state so that every district is connected with Patna within 3.5 hours. The projects have already been approved by the Ministry of Railways, and 222 ROBs have been cleared by district magistrates by issuing no-objection certificates, clearing the decks for the start of construction soon.

This project is among several aimed at modernizing Bihar's bridges and roads and cutting statewide travel time.

Key Highlights:

•  223 new ROBs to be constructed, substituting congested rail crossings and removing bottlenecks.

•  The projects have strong central and state support, with the Centre clearing more than ₹33,000 crore of road infrastructure in FY 2025-26. Other upgrades involve expansion of key bypasses, reinforcement of rural-urban road connections, and construction of new bridges to enhance connectivity and security.

•  Sujata Bypass in Gaya and trunk routes in Banka, Jamui, and Saran are some of the priority projects to be built simultaneously.

Prospect:

This infrastructure push will change the connectivity of Bihar, spur economic growth, and ensure quicker, more secure journeys for millions. With the work already started, the 3.5-hour connectivity target to Patna from all districts can be achievable, changing the development era of the state.
