	The FIDE Chess World Cup 2025, currently underway at the Resort Rio Convention Centre in North Goa, features 206 players from 82 countries. Divya Deshmukh, the reigning Women’s World Cup champion and India’s top female contender, faced a do-or-die situation in Game 2 after losing the first game. Despite showcasing resilience and tactical creativity, she was ultimately outplayed by her Greek opponent, ending her campaign in the opening round.
	
	The tournament, returning to Indian soil after 23 years, carries a prize pool of USD 2 million and offers qualification spots for the 2026 Candidates Tournament. While Divya bows out, several Indian players, including Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Pranav V, have advanced to the next round.
