Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has successfully installed the Raipur Pool–Dhamtari 400 kV double-circuit transmission line, a great infrastructural achievement towards developing the power grid in Chhattisgarh and the Indian Western region.
Key Highlights:
-
Raipur Pool–Dhamtari transmission line of about 88.65 km was constructed under the Western Region Expansion Scheme-XXVII (WRES-XXVII) on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis by the special purpose vehicle, POWERGRID Raipur Pool Dhamtari Transmission Limited.
-
This 400 kV high-capacity line has sophisticated quad ACSR/AAAC/AL59 Moose conductors and comprises two new line bays each at Raipur Pool and Dhamtari substations, providing easy integration and reliability for the regional grid.
The scheme was one of nine interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes that were completely commissioned in FY25 through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mode, with five of them being accounted for by Power Grid. Together, these schemes involve an investment of approximately ₹8,800 crore and are expected to have estimated annual transmission charges of ₹856 crore.
Bajel Projects Limited took a leading part in the supply and installation of specialized dwarf towers for the Raipur Pool–Dhamtari line, overcoming the limitations of space availability and meeting the deadline.
Commissioning of the line is anticipated to considerably enhance power evacuation capacities, enhance grid stability, and cater to increasing energy needs of Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas.
