Coal India Ltd (CIL) revealed a huge strategic overhaul with an overall estimated outlay of approximately 250 billion rupees, announcing plans to provide 4,500 MW of clean energy to AM Green Ammonia (India). The initiative is one of the biggest renewable energy supply deals in India till date.
CIL will supply renewable energy to AM Green's new green ammonia project under the newly executed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), helping India in its bold decarbonization and green hydrogen ambitions. The renewable energy will come from solar and wind and be blended with pumped hydro storage to ensure the reliability of supply to AM Green's plants. This project is likely to drive the generation of as much as 5 million tons a year of green ammonia by 2030 and will go a long way in supporting India's as well as global clean energy targets.
The collaboration demonstrates CIL's vision of moving away from conventional coal-based operations to a diversified, clean energy portfolio that will make it a prominent feature of India's clean energy landscape.
