NITI Aayog has launched the AI Talent Mission, a nationwide initiative to embed digital and AI literacy from primary school onwards. With over 60% of jobs at risk from automation by 2030, the mission aims to future-proof India’s workforce and position the country as a global AI talent hub.

In a bold move to safeguard India’s workforce against the looming threat of automation, NITI Aayog has unveiled the AI Talent Mission — a strategic initiative to integrate AI and digital literacy into the national education system, starting from the primary level. The mission is part of a broader roadmap to transform India into the AI workforce capital of the world, as outlined in NITI Aayog’s latest report on job creation in the AI economy.

The urgency is clear: according to the report, over 60% of formal jobs in India could be disrupted by automation by 2030. NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam emphasized that AI won’t eliminate jobs entirely, but will redefine roles and create new tasks — many of which didn’t exist even six months ago.

The AI Talent Mission aims to bridge the supply-demand gap in AI skills, which currently stands at nearly 50%. It will embed AI concepts across school curricula, promote hands-on learning, and foster collaboration between industry, academia, and government. The initiative also calls for robust career counselling systems to guide students toward emerging tech roles.
