The Congress party has declared a national 'Jai Hind Yatra' to be conducted in all states on May 9, which is a strong message of solidarity and unity in favor of Operation Sindoor. This significant move follows India's recent military operation against nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, a clear retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed innocent lives.
Key Highlights
The Jai Hind Yatra will be conducted together by all Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) units to mobilize citizens and party workers in support of the armed forces and the government's firm action against cross-border terrorism.
The announcement comes on the heels of an all-party meeting in New Delhi, in which Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed political leaders about the details and necessity of Operation Sindoor. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi were among the key attendees.
Congress has extended unequivocal support to the central government and the armed forces, emphasizing the need for national unity in the face of external threats. However, Congress leaders have also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the crucial all-party briefing, urging greater engagement from the country’s top leadership.
Operation Sindoor, which was initiated in the wee hours of Wednesday, involved the Indian Armed Forces carrying out targeted strikes on terror infrastructure associated with outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Four locations within Pakistan and five within Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir were targeted in the operation, which allegedly killed more than 100 terrorists.
In response, Pakistan tried to attack several military targets in western and northern India with drones and missiles. India's air defense systems successfully thwarted these attacks, and recovered debris confirmed the attempted attacks.
The Congress party's Jai Hind Yatra is intended to convey a strong message of determination and national will, with leaders and followers marching in unison to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and reiterate India's resolve to fight terrorism.
The Jai Hind Yatra is likely to attract huge crowds and considerable media coverage, underlining the sense of unity and determination that has marked the nation's response to recent security threats.
