Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made a strong pitch for a transparent, faceless Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and pressed for the urgent resolution of ₹80,000 crore in pending GST dues. Speaking at the third Accounting Standard Day organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Gupta highlighted the need for reforms to streamline tax collection and reduce bureaucratic hurdles for businesses.

She instructed GST officers not to summon business owners to their offices if they are already involved in ongoing court cases, advocating for minimal physical interaction and maximum digital processes.

The Chief Minister flagged the issue of ₹80,000 crore in outstanding GST dues owed to the Delhi government, attributing the backlog to disputes and procedural delays.
Gupta lauded the Chartered Accountant community for their pivotal role in resolving tax disputes and contributing to Delhi’s economic growth, urging them to continue raising awareness about tax compliance.
She reflected on her first budget as Chief Minister, noting that despite an almost empty treasury, she presented a ₹1 lakh crore budget, expressing confidence in the financial expertise of the CA community to help meet ambitious targets.
Gupta reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to business-friendly reforms, transparency, and efficient governance, calling the CA community “the backbone of tax compliance.”
The event also saw calls for continued modernization of Delhi’s markets and the introduction of a single-window clearance system to further ease business operations.
