In a major leap toward seamless digital governance, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has announced the pan-India integration of nearly 2,000 e-Government services across DigiLocker and e-District platforms. The milestone, achieved by the National e-Governance Division, now enables citizens in all 36 states and union territories to access a wide range of public services anytime, anywhere—ushering in a new era of paperless, presence-less, and cashless administration.
The announcement, made on August 31, 2025, marks a significant expansion of India’s Digital India mission, which aims to empower citizens through technology-driven governance and inclusive service delivery.

- Maharashtra leads with 229 issuers
- Karnataka follows with 178, Delhi with 102, and Rajasthan with 117
- Kerala, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, and Gujarat have also scaled up issuer participation
These departments include school boards, transport authorities, municipal corporations, and health registries. The documents issued are digitally signed and legally valid, reducing fraud and enhancing administrative efficiency.
Technology Backbone And Security
The platforms are built on secure cloud infrastructure with end-to-end encryption and role-based access controls. DigiLocker uses Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) to link documents directly to issuing authorities, ensuring authenticity and traceability.
Key features include:
- Aadhaar-based authentication for secure login
- API integration for third-party service providers
- Real-time document fetching from issuer databases
- Tamper-proof digital signatures and audit trails
The system is compliant with India’s IT Act and data protection guidelines, offering citizens confidence in the safety and legality of their digital records.
Future Roadmap And Expansion Plans
The Ministry plans to expand the scope of services to include:
- Land records and agricultural subsidies
- Pension and social welfare schemes
- Skill certification and employment portals
- Disaster relief and insurance claims
Efforts are also underway to integrate DigiLocker with ONDC for document-based commerce and with UPI for fee payments. The platforms will soon support voice-based access and AI-powered grievance redressal.
