India is set to turn over a fresh page in rural innovation as it is all set to launch its first Smart Intelligent Village in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. Set to be rolled out on a pilot basis by August 15, the project is being implemented by a cluster of local telecom and technology companies under the Voice of Indian Communication Technology Enterprises (VoICE), in partnership with the Maharashtra government.

Key Highlights:

Tech-Powered Transformation: The village will adopt the most advanced solutions like e-health, e-education, smart agriculture, drone-supported irrigation, smart panchayat governance, and AI-supported surveillance.

Backbone of Make in India: The program is driven by homegrown design-centric telecome companies alone, as per the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of the government.

Pilot Launch at Nagpur: The pilot village will serve as an actual laboratory for scalable rural tech solutions. If the project is successful, the same models will be replicated in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Economic Aspiration: The project is expected to propel India's GDP growth into double digits in the next three years via rural productivity and digital inclusion.

5G-Ready Infrastructure: The village will have Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), and massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) capabilities, to enable future-proof rural environments.

This ambitious experiment will seek to bridge the urban-rural digital divide and make India a world leader in the digital revolution from below—beginning from the very heart of Vidarbha itself.
