Hindustan Zinc has deployed 40 electric bulkers in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels to transport calcine between its Udaipur and Chittorgarh facilities. The initiative supports HZL’s net-zero 2050 goal, enhances operational safety, and reduces carbon emissions. It builds on existing clean mobility efforts and sets a benchmark for sustainable industrial logistics.
Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), India’s largest integrated zinc producer, has flagged off a fleet of 40 electric bulkers as part of its green logistics initiative. The deployment marks a major step toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and reinforces the company’s commitment to clean mobility across its operations.
Deployment Highlights
- The electric bulkers were launched on October 8, 2025, at HZL’s Zinc Smelter Debari facility in Udaipur
- Developed in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt Ltd, the vehicles will operate under an eight-year contract
- These bulkers will transport calcine—a sand-like by-product of zinc roasting—from Debari to HZL’s integrated zinc-lead smelter in Chittorgarh
- Ten vehicles have already been deployed, with the remaining units scheduled to roll out in phases over the coming months
- The initiative builds on HZL’s existing fleet of LNG and battery-powered trucks, expanding its clean transport portfolio
Strategic Significance
- CEO Arun Misra emphasized that the electric fleet enhances operational efficiency, workforce safety, and long-term value
- The move aligns with HZL’s broader decarbonisation roadmap, which includes renewable energy integration and energy-efficiency upgrades
- The electric bulkers are expected to significantly reduce logistics-related carbon emissions while improving fleet availability and reliability
- HZL also signed a memorandum of understanding with Enviiiro Wheels to deploy electric buses for employee transportation at the same facility
Sustainability Milestones
- HZL is the first Indian company to join the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) in 2025
- It holds validated Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) goals aligned with the 1.5°C global warming threshold
- The company was ranked among the top 1 percent in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the second consecutive year
- Other initiatives include a 530 MW renewable energy agreement and investments in turbine upgrades and variable frequency drives
Outlook
- The electric bulker rollout is a pivotal moment in India’s industrial logistics transition
- It sets a benchmark for other mining and manufacturing firms aiming to reduce Scope 3 emissions
- HZL’s partnership with Enviiiro Wheels signals a scalable model for green mobility in heavy industries
