Gujarat has made a huge leap towards developing its drone ecosystem by increasing drone pilot training and manufacturing facilities in 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). This program, driven by Kaushalya – The Skill University (KSU), will make the state a frontrunner in India's emerging drone sector. Focusing on innovation, skill acquisition, and local production, Gujarat is getting its workforce ready for the future of drone technology.
Increase in Training Centers: Pilot training for drones will now be conducted in 19 ITIs in Gujarat. Two of these, Bilimora and Mandvi, have already been recognized by DGCA as Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs), with the rest of the 17 centers under way.
Development of Indigenous Drones: More than 100 drones have been designed and built locally at KSU, which demonstrates the state's emphasis on self-reliance in drone technology.
Comprehensive Curriculum: The "Drone Mantra" course incorporates cutting-edge education in drone manufacturing, coding, and operation through high-end simulation labs and equipment.
Industry Partnerships: Partnerships with industry leaders offer the students hands-on experience with industrial applications.
Skill Development Hub: KSU's new campus in Ahmedabad, constructed at a cost of over ₹164 crore, will be a core hub for high-skill education in robotics, AI, clean energy, and drone technology.
Economic Impact: The scheme is in tandem with India's estimated growth in the drone market to ₹1.21 billion by 2030. The scheme intends to make the country self-reliant while decreasing import dependence.
Job Creation and Future Workforce: By imparting training to more than 1,000 candidates in drone assembly and manufacturing till date, Gujarat is preparing its young population for high-priority jobs in the sectors of agriculture, logistics, defense, and infrastructure surveillance.
