One of the most renowned and crowd-attracting Durga Puja celebrations of Kolkata, the Santosh Mitra Square Sarbojanin Durgotsav, is currently enjoying its 89th year, having been established in 1936. Also known colloquially as Lebutala Park Puja, this festival has progressed from being a local affair to being a highly acclaimed national event, celebrated for its grand thematic pandals, art innovation, and massive footfall.
Over the decades, the puja has had themes ranging from Buckingham Palace (2017) to Las Vegas Sphere (2024), and this year's theme, "Operation Sindoor," has already generated controversy and drawn attention from both devotees and authorities. Despite controversies over crowd management and police directives, the organizing committee is determined to offer a safe and stunning experience.
The puja is organized by the Santosh Mitra Square Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee, and Sajal Ghosh is the secretary and Pradeep Ghosh is the president. The address, at Bowbazar, is walking distance from Sealdah and Central metro stations and continues to be one of the places to visit during Durga Puja time.
