The government has sanctioned a game-changing ₹40,000 crore expressway project that will cut the travel time between Mumbai and Bengaluru from 18 hours to just 6 hours. The new Pune-Bengaluru Expressway-a 700 km, access-controlled greenfield corridor-will allow high-speed vehicular movement (up to 120 km/h) and include two emergency airstrips, 55 flyovers, and 22 interchanges.
Route Explained:
The expressway will start at Kanjale on Pune Ring Road, pass through Pune, Satara, and Sangli in Maharashtra, and then traverse nine districts in Karnataka-including Belagavi, Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagar, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, and Bengaluru Rural-before entering Bengaluru city. It will seamlessly connect with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, connecting three large metros and reducing the Pune-Bengaluru distance by 95 km.
The project, which is being implemented by NHAI under Bharatmala Pariyojana, will increase economic development, real estate, and business activities on its route.
