In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Xu Wei, the Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, said that China and India are negotiating to restart direct flights after almost five years of interruption. This notice comes prior to the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which takes place on April 1. Xu pointed out that before the pandemic hit, there were 50 weekly flights between key cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with New Delhi and Mumbai. He was hopeful of enhancing bilateral ties, and called this phase "the spring of China-India relations." He also added that China would like to see India ease its visa policies for Chinese tourists. This move is considered a measure towards increasing trade and cultural exchange between the two nations.
