Deepinder Goyal's Zomato eliminated its 15-minute food delivery service 'Quick' in just four months from the time of its inception. The business had encountered operational challenges, low volume orders, and profitability problems. CEO Goyal said the existing restaurant density and kitchen infrastructure were unable to cope with ultra-fast deliveries on a regular basis, leading to inconsistent consumer experiences and no material increase in demand. Zomato also mentioned that maintaining the service would have jeopardized quality and safety, and the experiment did not demonstrate a clear way to profitability.
The firm is now re-focusing on its core food delivery business and using Blinkit's dark stores for speedy snacks through an independent service, 'Bistro by Blinkit'. This is Zomato's second pullback from the ultra-fast delivery space, after the previous discontinuation of 'Zomato Instant'.
