Bengaluru is set for a landmark property documentation drive as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) launches a month-long E-Khata campaign this July, aiming to simplify and accelerate the process for millions of property owners across the city.

Key Highlights:

•  Doorstep Delivery: The campaign will deliver draft E-Khatas directly to property owners’ homes, starting with a pilot in Byatarayanapura Assembly constituency. An initial 25,000 E-Khatas are ready, with plans to reach up to 20 lakh properties citywide by the end of July.

•  Mandatory for Approvals: From July 1, E-Khata or electronic property ID will be mandatory for all online building plan approvals, streamlining the process and eliminating manual verification delays.

•  Digital Integration: The BBMP’s E-Aasthi and EoDB-OBPS platforms are being integrated, enabling automatic cross-verification of property records and reducing bureaucratic hurdles for applicants.

•  Addressing Backlogs: With only about 5 lakh of 25 lakh properties currently holding E-Khatas, the campaign targets those who have struggled to obtain documents online or through traditional channels.

•  Transparency Push: The initiative is designed to curb malpractices and ensure a more transparent, accountable system for property documentation and urban governance.

Outlook:
This month-long E-Khata campaign marks a significant leap toward digitizing Bengaluru’s property records, promising faster approvals, greater transparency, and easier access for all property owners—setting a new standard for urban governance in India.
