International sensation Ed Sheeran thrilled fans in his home county of Suffolk with a quiet surprise gig at The Thomas Wolsey pub in Ipswich on May 4. The pub, which has been temporarily renamed "The Old Phone" after one of the tracks on his new album Play, is being run by Sheeran himself for two weeks as part of a one-off pop-up event. Lucky supporters who responded to Sheeran's post or were selected at random had the opportunity to hear a personal concert, featuring his new track and new work by Play.
The pop-up pub initiative has generated huge interest, with music fans and the locals delighted at Sheeran's return to his roots. "It's great that he has come back to entertain the people of Suffolk," one fan said to us. The surprise performance comes ahead of Sheeran's three best shows at Ipswich's Portman Road stadium this July.
