Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a prominent player in India's engineering and infrastructure scene, has made a significant stride in the country’s clean energy journey by unveiling a Green Hydrogen Portal. This initiative is all about boosting public awareness and speeding up the adoption of green hydrogen as a sustainable fuel source. In addition, the company has launched a new subsidiary—L&T Green Energy Kandla Private Limited (LTGEK)—to lead the charge on green hydrogen and ammonia projects, showcasing its dedication to a more sustainable future.
Key Highlights:
Green Hydrogen Portal Launched: L&T’s new portal aims to inform and engage the public about the advantages and possibilities of green hydrogen, playing a crucial role in India’s clean energy transition and decarbonization efforts.
New Subsidiary for Green Hydrogen: LTGEK, operating under L&T Energy Green Tech Limited, will concentrate on developing large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, which include production, storage, and export infrastructure. This subsidiary is strategically located in Gujarat’s Kandla region, which is becoming a key area for renewable energy.
Major Business Win: L&T Energy Green Tech has recently clinched Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL) first green hydrogen tender, securing a contract to supply 10 KTPA of green hydrogen at ₹397/kg for 25 years at IOCL’s Panipat refinery. This marks a significant achievement in India’s green hydrogen roadmap.
Capacity Expansion: L&T’s Hazira facility has successfully commissioned its first electrolyser and has plans to expand its electrolyser capacity to 150–200 MW by September 2025, further enhancing its green energy value chain.
Strategic Alignment: These initiatives position L&T in line with global decarbonization trends, establishing it as a key player in the renewable energy sector while supporting India’s ambitious goals for green hydrogen production and export.
“By launching LTGEK and the Green Hydrogen Portal, L&T is not just investing in technology; it’s also fostering public awareness and taking a leadership role in creating a cleaner, greener India.”
