In a pioneering move for India’s clean mobility and mining sectors, Adani Enterprises Ltd has officially commissioned the country’s first off-grid green hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck. The vehicle, designed for heavy-duty mining logistics, was flagged off on May 10, 2025, at the Gare Pelma III coal block in Chhattisgarh, marking a significant leap in Adani’s decarbonization roadmap.

1. Project Highlights
  • The three truck-mounted hydrogen tanks give the vehicle a 200 km range and a 40-ton payload capacity, ideal for transporting coal from the mine to the state power plant.
  • It emits only water vapor and warm air, making it a zero-emission substitute for diesel trucks.
  • Constructed in collaboration with Ashok Leyland and Ballard Power Systems, the truck uses a 120 kW fuel cell stack and is part of a bigger pilot program run by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL).
2. Strategic Significance
  • India's first ever hydrogen fuel cell truck in a mines operation, a precedent for off-grid clean energy logistics.
  • The initiative supports Adani’s broader green hydrogen ambitions, which include investments in solar modules, wind turbines, and battery manufacturing.
  • The project aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and aims to reduce emissions and noise pollution in industrial zones.
3. Government & Industry Response
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the truck, calling it a “model for sustainable mining.”

Adani is to increase deployment of hydrogen trucks across all its logistics operations, solidifying its position as a clean energy and responsible mining leader.
