More than 2.11 lakh students and educators across India have enrolled in the government’s free Skilling for AI Readiness (SOAR) programme. Launched in 2025, the initiative aims to integrate artificial intelligence learning into schools and training ecosystems, preparing youth and teachers for a rapidly evolving digital future.
India’s ambitious Skilling for AI Readiness (SOAR) programme has witnessed overwhelming participation, with over 2.11 lakh enrolments reported within months of its launch. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is designed to equip students from classes 6 to 12 and educators with foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence.
The programme offers structured modules focusing on machine learning basics, ethical AI use, and hands-on projects. Students undergo three targeted 15-hour modules, while educators are provided with a comprehensive 45-hour training module. The government has also allocated Rs 500 crore in the Union Budget 2025–26 to establish a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for education, further strengthening the initiative.
