The ring is set, the gloves are on, and the next generation of Indian boxing stars have landed in China to take on the world. A strong 59-member Indian contingent has arrived in Urumqi, Xinjiang, for the much-anticipated third “Belt and Road” International Youth Boxing Gala — a marquee event that brings together the brightest U-17 talent from across the globe for a training camp and fierce in-ring competition.
The Contingent: Youth with Punch
India’s team is built on the backbone of recent domestic success. The 40 young pugilists—20 boys and 20 girls—secured their berths through stellar performances at the 6th U-17 Junior Boys & Girls National Boxing Championships 2025. Selection was rigorous: only gold and silver medallists in Asian Youth Games weight categories, plus gold medallists from other categories, made the cut—a testament to the competitive depth bubbling up from India’s boxing grassroots.
Supporting these athletes are 12 coaches, six support staff, and a referee and judge, ensuring comprehensive technical and psychological support as the squad faces some of the toughest youth boxers worldwide.
Tournament Details: More than Medals
The 3rd Belt and Road International Youth Boxing Gala goes beyond podium finishes. The event opens with an intensive training camp in Urumqi from August 17–25, followed by high-stakes competition rounds from August 26–29 in Urumqi and Yili. The meet, organized by the Chinese Boxing Federation with the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Government, aims to foster sporting camaraderie and cross-cultural exchange as much as it celebrates excellence.
Our U-17 boxers will fight it out across 13 weight categories, from 46kg to over 80kg. Each bout serves both as a test and a learning experience, offering exposure to diverse international boxing styles and ring tactics.
Rising Star Power: India’s Junior Boxing Boom
The buzz around this squad comes on the heels of a string of successes for India’s youth and junior boxers. This year alone, India clinched 43 medals—including a host of golds—at the Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships, finishing second overall. The U-19 and U-22 squads also notched 27 medals at the Asian Championships in Bangkok earlier this month.
The depth, discipline, and dedication on display across age groups point to a bright future: never before has India entered global youth events with such well-prepared and confident contenders.

Officials and coaches say the China gala will provide vital international exposure and help these promising athletes build mental toughness.
