Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd (GPIL) has received formal approval from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to supply high-tensile (HT) steel billets for use in galvanized fabricated steel structures across its transmission projects. The approval, granted on February 5, 2025, marks a major milestone for GPIL, positioning it as a key domestic supplier in India’s power infrastructure value chain.
Previously reliant on external billet suppliers like SAIL, GPIL will now use its in-house manufactured billets, enabling significant cost savings and margin expansion. The company expects this development to contribute an additional ₹150 crore to EBITDA annually, as it ramps up billet production to meet PGCIL’s growing demand—driven by India’s renewable energy push and grid expansion.
GPIL is currently the only Indian company capable of producing galvanized steel structures entirely in-house—from iron ore mining to finished product—giving it a strategic edge in quality control and cost efficiency.
